Analyzing the Collapse by Sporting KC at St. Louis City

from For the Glory KC - A Sporting KC Podcast · host Chad and Sheena Smith

S2E46 - For the Glory KC is back with the 53rd episode of the show... and it's a sad week in KC soccer. So. Much. Losing. On this week's episode, Sporting Kansas City lose the season series to St. Louis City SC. And it got ugly. We break down all four goals and what went wrong, ask some questions of the tactics on the day and more widely on the decision making of the club. After the game, Peter Vermes said it was poor decisions that led to the goals. One assumes he's speaking of the players, but maybe he was talking about him and his staff's inability to adjust to the changing state of the game. It also wouldn't be a podcast hosted by me if I didn't sneak in a little referee complaining. Jake Davis got crushed by Sam Adeniran and headbutted a bit after that. Obviously, Sporting KC have to win the game they are playing in, but of course these calls could change the game. Our conversation naturally evolved into a discussion on if Peter Vermes should be fired or not and Sheena thinks he needs to be more emotional. I said, if he's too emotional, he gets yellows (you see what I did there). If he comes out ranting and raving, fans won't be happy with that either. Winning fixes everything and KC forgot to win this weekend. And because our analysis went so long on the SKC/STL game, we keep the rest of the podcast brief (which is ironic to say on an episode this long). We dive into the following topics: Johnny Russell getting fined The KC Current are back in action and fail too! After getting an early lead against the Washington Spirit and being within inches of the playoffs, they fully collapsed and lose 2-1. The Digital Crawl (featuring playoff positioning, FC Cincy winning the Supporters Shield -- and Sheena learning what that is) and of course Messi to piss off Sheena. Here is a quick rundown of topics (and approximate start times): Sporting KC are embarrassed by St. Louis - 5:47 Should St. Louis have been given red cards? - 32:55 Should Peter Vermes be Fired? - 47:10 Johnny Russell seeing red - 57:31 SKC II are sent packing from the playoffs - 1:01:31 The KC Current Bomb Against the Spirit - 1:07:46 Digital Crawl - 1:11:15 Upcoming Games KC Current vs CF Monterrey Feminil - Wednesday, October 4th @ 7:00 PM CST KC Current vs Chicago Red Stars -  Saturday, October 7th @ 7:00 PM Sporting KC at Real Salt Lake - Saturday, October 7th @ 8:30 PM Big thanks to Splitter Conspiracy (listen to them here) for our theme music made with the permission of the KC Cauldron.
