Ancestors
from Yuzima Philip · host Yuzima Philip
Ancestors is a 20-minute single structured around the conventions of Greek theatre — a journey through the genealogy of Black music traced through personal and cultural memory. It begins in a Bronx apartment where electric boogie filled the room. It moves through Hall & Oates, Sade, Sarah Vaughan, and the sounds that shaped a life before a life knew how to name them. In it you can hear scatting, electric guitar storms, new wave, and subconscious textures of sound. The inspiration was simple and cosmic: light from ancient stars is still traveling through the universe. Which means our earliest ancestors are still reflecting through everything — including the music. This is POD II. The second installment in Yuzima Philip’s self-designed release format that refuses the architecture of streaming and builds works that function as evidence, not entertainment. The wasteland is not the destination. It’s the starting point.
