Anchored 12: First Things First

Anxiety feels unavoidable in today’s world—threats to survival, uncertainty about the future, and pressure to prove our worth can weigh heavily on our hearts. Yet in Matthew 6, Jesus gives us a clear command: “Do not be anxious.”But how?This passage reminds us that freedom from worry is found not in controlling outcomes, but in reordering our values. Jesus points us to creation—the birds of the air and lilies of the field—as everyday testimonies that God provides and sustains. If He so cares for them, how much more for His children?The heart of the matter is this: what holds first place in your life? To seek first the Kingdom of God means to filter every decision, priority, and desire through His surpassing worth. When God is not just first, but over everything, we are freed to trust Him with both our needs and our future.The cure for anxiety isn’t simply focusing on the problem—it’s focusing on the Person. When God is rightly valued, our hearts find rest in His faithful care.
