Anchored 16: The Lord is My Rock

David opens this psalm not only with confidence in God’s protection, but also with deep affection: “I love you, O Lord, my strength.” His refuge is not found in the absence of storms but in the presence of the One who shields, delivers, and sustains him.Like the bird sheltering her young in the midst of a storm, David’s peace came not from calm circumstances but from trusting in God’s steadfast love. This is the heart of the Christian faith: we are not left to hope for the favor of a distant deity, but invited into an intimate love relationship with the living God.Psalm 18 challenges us to reflect on whether we truly rest in that relationship—declaring with both confidence and affection that the Lord is our rock, fortress, and stronghold.
