Anchored 38: What is Sin?

Sin is not just doing bad things—it’s missing the mark of what we were created for. God designed humanity to reflect His glory, to live in fellowship with Him, and to order our lives according to His truth. But when we exchange His truth for lies and worship created things instead of the Creator, we cut ourselves off from the very source of life.Paul’s description of sin in Romans 1 reveals how rebellion against God leads to broken thinking, distorted desires, and self-destruction. At the root of sin is ingratitude—refusing to honor or thank God. Yet even in exposing our sin, God’s purpose is mercy. He wounds us so that He might heal us through Christ, the One who took our sin upon Himself.True repentance begins when we stop blaming the world and start humbly confessing, “The problem begins with me.” From that place of surrender, God restores our purpose—to live for His glory and to find our deepest joy in Him.
