Ancient Egyptian Folklore

from Mythological Africans Podcast · host Mythological Africans

We read and discussed "The Story of the Two Brothers" which is believed to be one of the oldest folktales in the world. The story recounts the lives and exploits of two brothers, Anubis and Bata, the women who betrayed them, and their eventual reconciliation and exaltation as God-Kings. The first part of the story is strikingly similar to the biblical story of Joseph and Potiphar's wife. “The Story of the Two Brothers” was written during the reign of Seti II (1200 to 1194 BC). It was preserved on a papyrus scroll which is currently in the British Museum as the “Orbiney Papyrus". The museum purchased it from woman named Elizabeth d'Orbiney in 1857. You can work on your hieroglyphics and check out a public domain version of the manuscript here.Story Source:Popular Stories of Ancient Egypt by Gaston Maspero Get full access to Mythological Africans at mythologicalafricans.substack.com/subscribe
