Angela Davis Fired for Being a Communist, 1969

September 19, 1969, Angela Davis was fired by the Board of Regents of the University of California, Los Angeles, for membership in the Communist Party. Her firing was overturned by a judge the following month, and the following year the Board of Regents fired her again, this time for “inflammatory language,” and in August 1970 she was charged with kidnapping and murder, of which she was ultimately found not guilty.
