Angela Pugh: National Speaker, Interventionist, Life Coach and Host of Addiction Unlimited Podcast Ep 78

from The High Cost of Anonymity Podcast: Exploring the Cost of Keeping Your Life Experience to Yourself · host Preston Moore, K Preston Moore

"Imagine, standing on the side of the highway, covered in blood, and thinking about how you are going to tell your mother you killed someone?" Angela was one of the very first interviews I ever had and due to my high-level tech skills, I couldn't figure out how to get the audio off of my wife's computer and onto the podcast.  Well my friends, here it is... FINALLY!  I also must say, I fan boy'd out a bit with Angela because her podcast, Addiction Unlimited, was the first recovery podcast I ever listened to so I felt as if I was meeting a celebrity! Angela grew up in Kansas City and bolted for California as soon as she got the chance.  She couldn't wait to get out of her hometown and away for those people she felt so apart from... she always just felt different than everyone else.  California was an adventure.  She tended bar all over LA, had an apartment in Hollywood, and enjoyed an amazing lifestyle partying up and down the Sunset Strip for a decade.  Eventually, she was ready for what was next.  She thought, maybe San Diego would be a good place to settle however, her friend convinced her to move back to Kansas as a pit stop before heading to So Cal.  Here's where the fun starts! Ever run into a car on the highway going 70 mph?  Well, that's exactly what happened to Angela.  "Imagine, standing on the side of the highway, covered in blood, and thinking about how you are going to tell your mother you killed someone?"  How about, while you're already on probation for a DUI, having already had that probation revoked and after having to spend a few weekends in jail!?  There is this thing that happens with many alcoholics where things go from "keeping it together" to "not"... and if you're lucky, it happens very quickly!  Often, there needs to be a moment in an alcoholics journey when they realize, "I have no control over this drink" or realizing, " the drink is controlling me and I've got to do something different."  For Angela, all this happened in a short eight-month span.  On this episode, Angela tells her story of how her drinking career started off perfectly normal and slowly progressed into serious alcoholism.  She tells how she got sober, became an interventionist, life coach, and started a business called Kansas City Recovery Services where they provide men's sober living and outpatient services.   If you would like to get a hold of Angela, you can find here: Instagram @addictionunlimited @angela_pugh_ Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/addictionunlimited Website: https://addictionunlimited.com/
