ANGELS AND DEMONS

Date: 6.21.09 Speaker: Kristian Martens Texts: Luke 4:31-44 Title: ANGELS & DEMONS: PUSHING PAST THE DARKNESS. There are two equal & opposite errors into which our race cn fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. C.S. Lewis, Screwtape Letters Jesus has gone from hero to zero, from rockstar preacher to false prophet, in front of his hometown fans. In a matter of minutes, His initially well-received Kingdom proclamation was misinterpreted into an offensive message of hate inspiring a murderous response. His message of freedom, liberty, healing & favour not only offended his neighbours, but it engaged the spiritual dimension. From this point on the revolution is at hand. And Jesus, the light of the World, is no longer on defense, but offensively taking back stolen territory, opening blind eyes and pushing back the darkness. In this scene, well see Jesus speak with authority, engaging demons & the suffering of humanity under sin. Well explore the reality of the spiritual dimension angels & demons and look for cues as to rightly responding to these powers & principalities. And well end off with Jesus announcing his mission to proclaim the Good News of his Kingdom to the world (v43) and to destroy the work of the devil (1 John 3:8). This 2000 year-old revolution continues today and is, in fact, the mission of Jesus church.
