Annie Chambers, the indomitable civil rights warrior who spent her life championing Baltimore’s most vulnerable, has died at 84 — leaving behind a legacy forged in protest, love, and unyielding justice. Rising from hardship, she co-founded the Baltimore Welfare Rights Organization, battled privatization of public housing, and stood shoulder-to-shoulder with tenants at Douglass Homes. With a voice that refused to be silenced, she fought for food, heat, and dignity — always targeting the greed of the powerful and the crushing weight of poverty. Even in her final years, she co-founded We Stand Up For All, proving her fire never dimmed. Survived by 25 children, her spirit lives on in every community she touched — and her memorial and ongoing initiatives are coming soon.
