Well hello hello hi hi we have a very special episode for you yeah We just had an episode. Yeah, I've heard us lizard man. We're back and we're back already already and I know you're thinking WTF Why are they back? Do they have a great another episode?
Well are they nervous? Are you nervous? What are we gonna drop? What kind of bombshell is it?
Well as you guys know, we just celebrated our fifth anniversary. Yeah, we've been doing this for every week for five years Yes, so Haley and I have sort of had a conversation about you know, wow five years like where do we go from here? Yeah, what is what do we do? What does it look like?
What's the next year look like for us? What's the next five years look like for us? Exactly. I say you know for me probably full-on Perry menopause Yeah, maybe So why does this feel so nerve-wracking?
I don't know. Say it. So you want me to help? Yeah, so we're not we're not going anywhere.
This is what we're saying We're not we're not leaving. Yeah, we are still doing not misery. It tells her Appalachia. However, it's gonna change a little bit So when we first started Thinking about doing a podcast even before yeah, the idea for this came from like two years prior When we really like first started working together and getting close and we would talk on phone For like hours at a time just about life and work had to deal with our stress Yeah, everything and it got actually pretty deep yeah in conversation And that's something that you know as much as like we can be silly and goofy and that's true Yeah, we also you know have had very deep conversations and learning each other that we're actually very similar in certain ways and those kinds of things so At one point I had worked I was working at another job.
Yeah, we were working together and I had these really long commutes particularly on Mondays I certainly long commutes and so we would talk to each other on the phone and we started saying like we should just call this deep thoughts with Holly And as time sort of went on then my son was born and we started talking about COVID happened Why don't we start a podcast? We have a mutual love of true crime It was really like the true crime space was really like kicking off at that point like there were a ton of podcasts coming out We were listening to a lot of them. We knew we had good like we had good chemistry with each other good banter already And we thought I mean we could we could try this I mean it did seem so like that's what other people do How can we do this and thanks to your brother and your ingenuity? I think you know we were able to sort of put this dream into fruition Yeah, and we you know never in our wildest dreams Did we ever think that more than like 15 people would ever listen to this?
I think that was five. Yeah, I mean That's kind of where we were at so we were really shocked and we still are so shocked every time every time I look at our like our page I'm just in awe of what we've built here and like the people we've gotten to know and meet and talk to has been really crazy, but I Think we always I think we went true crime for a couple different reasons One we're really passionate about telling stories especially from our area of Western North Carolina and after that black region and you know This area just historically isn't covered super well, right? So we really wanted to put that out there and I think is native So you know, I mean it is you can tell the story, you know from anywhere about anywhere But it really helps to hear it from people who are from that area and understand it Yeah, and you know over the years that we've been doing this there have been several other really amazing podcasts that have come up The people like even some of the bigger podcasts like I mean these huge podcasts have branched out and are covering stories from this area Which is really exciting to to hear and that these stories are getting more traction particularly the missing person's yeah, absolutely and then there's also like you know, how do we Continue to do this in an ethical way, right? You know, it's one of those like that's becoming more and more of a conversation in the true crime space of how do we tell these stories in a way that respects the families which is something we try really really hard to do, right?
But you know, we fall short on that sometimes and you know everyone does but I think there is a conversation to be had about like The kinds of stories that we tell and how do we tell them in a way that is you know, that's ethical ethical honoring And I will be honest with you all, you know as much as early on we talked about hiring, you know a research person And you know, we do all of this ourselves do anywhere from editing to social media to the research to prepping for it And we can we go I'm gonna tell you it is very hard. It's really hard. This is no I think this is not an easy thing to pull off no and we both are very, you know busy individuals We work full-time we have you know families and lives outside of this and we also live an hour away from each other Yeah, so it's sometimes a journey literally literally trying to figure out scheduling what time we can do it You know, it sometimes is very hard and I think that as much as we love this We're trying to figure out we're sort of in a different space of our lives as well And so we're trying to figure what what would fit us best our time our availability all those things What are we passionate about you like where do we want to focus our energy? Is another big conversation we found yes, and we sort of flesh this out What is this gonna look like we've talked about modifying our patreon?
Oh wait, maybe we should modify this And so we've kind of gone back and forth a lot of different options, but ultimately what we've decided on is we don't want to leave You guys we don't leave the mountain mysteries tails from Appalachia because we still do love it and we love you guys And so we're not ditching you right? We're still gonna be here So our pledge for you as far as mountainous reattails from Appalachia is to post one episode a month So you guys are used to every week on Thursday posts We are going to scale back into one episode a month Yeah, and we're gonna switch off so one of one month. It'll be Haley's episode the next month It'll be my episode and so on I know that sounds really scary It does it feels really scary for us to does because this has been like our baby yes for the past five years Yes, we have you know put the heart and soul into this thing and we are So incredibly grateful for the people who have helped us do this and those of you that listen every week told your friends about it Yeah, I mean, it's it's been pretty wild And we definitely wouldn't be in the position to try something new without all of you so we are Excited to announce that we are starting an additional podcast. Yeah, and it's called deep thoughts with Holly and Haley I'm sure you're like what the hell is this just these two broads talking about blah blah blah They're like well sort of kind of yeah, but also I think we're gonna be talking about topics that are relevant and important to us And you and so we want to encourage our fan base now to interact with us even more Yeah, so sending us those emails those little Audio clips of you saying like, you know, I've really been struggling with this or that or this is something That's really been on my heart or this is what my girlfriend's and I are talking about yeah Like what are your thoughts on this and it's not meant that we are not I mean we are both mental health professionals Correct, but we're not your mental health professional mind So we are happy to give advice and kind of talk through our own feelings and our own deep thoughts on topics But please don't think we're gonna be like diagnosed Treatment information.
This is just something that we We feel like is a good move for us kind of at this point in the season of our lives and you know We're in a space now where you know, we have had some pretty wild experiences Absolutely, and I don't know I just think there's so many of you that reach out to us all the time saying how much you enjoy the I mean some of you really hate it But some of you really love the like are like five to seven minute banter 15 or 15 little conversations at the beginning of the episodes You say like it feels like I'm sitting down and talking with my girlfriends or you know And we that's I think originally what we always wanted to do Yeah, like that is that it was always a dream of ours Yeah, and we thought nobody's gonna sit there and listen to us talk unless we have something to talk about exactly And that's kind of how we landed on true crime and when we love it We we truly do love it and our passion about it and our passion about finding stories that connect You know to our lives and the area that we love so much But we are ready to try something a little new and grow and you know Haley and I we come from different generations But what I love about that is I can be like an old curmudgeon sometimes and she's like hey No, really think about it from this perspective Which really opens my mind and hopefully some of my experiences are helpful for her because I'm older So like I feel like we can help You know give some advice and share that love and care because we come from different places and yet We show how you can unite and still have these open dialogues and love each other Yeah, and I think we're decently funny over hilarious So it's like you know this next venture. It's not gonna be a super serious like you know Yeah, there's gonna be some serious topics There's gonna be some like deep thoughts and deep moments But also like we can't do anything without laughing at ourselves So and we've talked about this before we work in fields that are highly stressful And we learned early on that if we didn't learn to laugh and let go a little This our job would eat us up and spit us out Yeah And the reason that we've had lasting careers is because we've learned how to laugh in those periods where we can yeah And to laugh at ourselves the situations that we found ourselves in and you know I think that yeah that's that's been a huge coping skill for us and You know we've we've had people reach out and say that they would love to hear more about You know our lives and what we do and you know We will share as much as you know obviously as much as we feel comfortable sharing We're not you know gonna become the next like I don't know lifestyle vloggers Whatever No, but we do want to we do want to try this and we are totally prepared for it to flop We were totally prepared for you know the first time around we were like we hope we get five listeners this time We're even going down like I hope we get three. Yeah I mean I was aiming for two three feels high Three feels like two and a half like maybe someone who's a little like like under five feet. Oh, yeah, that'll work Yeah, that's perfect.
Yeah, so we We do not expect all of you guys to jump over with us on this new adventure And we realize you may have some really strong feelings about that Yeah, you may be like that's really stupid and that's dumb and I hate that and that's okay listening to you again And that's fine. That's been a great journey. Oh, yes, and and I you know for us We are gonna continue like we said the monthly mountain mysteries And and I don't know how long that'll that'll can be you know I'm like we hope for it to kind of continue it Yeah, it depends on scheduling but we'll continue to keep our pages going yeah Yeah, absolutely and we want to we want to keep we will you know try to keep that I can't promise anything But like as long as folks are engaged in it like we want to we want to keep it going But we also are wanting to kind of shift gears a little bit Like we said earlier putting this thing together just the two of us is to do all of the research I mean, it's like writing a book report every week Contrary to what some of the be back is online. We actually do a lot of research Yeah, so it takes a it takes a lot in a long time to do these and Something that we've never said on this podcast.
I think we've talked about it on patreon. Mm-hmm. We record six episodes At one time yeah because we live an hour apart and because our lives are so crazy so like tonight I got here to Hollies at like 6 30. It's 11 p.m.
Right now and we recorded this is the fifth episode that we've got it So you know for us we try to do that so that we can maximize time for jobs or families No things but we try so hard to bring you episodes that are new and fresh and exciting and sometimes that's a challenge to be honest And you know sometimes it's It's so stressful to Put it together and that's never something I thought I would say because like when we started this I was like oh yeah This is easy like we can find all these stories that do all these things and I think our lives look really different at that time And we're we're now at a point where you know, we're We feel confident enough To to do something we really want to do and try it and I mean, you know, I feel like we've we've gotten our you know We've we've gotten almost 300 episodes and like it's not like we tried two episodes and we're like this doesn't feel right. This is hard Yeah, so but I think that in this time in our society particularly I think it is so important to have these conversations with men and women and You know everyone alike to be able to talk about how we're feeling and sharing our hearts and like You know, I think this can be transformed if I'm not saying that our podcast particularly is gonna be transformed But I'm saying that kind of being able to have this open talk in this dialogue is what we need Yeah, and we are really looking forward to hearing from you You know, we kind of joked about like this being a almost like an ask-allist or whatever that'll look at your abby Yeah, if you're abby like that kind of thing you're Holly and Haley. I am struggling with this Are you also because everything's on fire? Like yeah, probably yeah, I gotta take the herp cream.
Yeah, I gotta do it with your fire I mean get that shot of pencil under your sifolas exactly Haley. It's wrong. You're sift. Oh for the sift.
Oh At the end of the day, you know, like I said, you know, and we both talked about we want to Incorporate you the audience into this what you're going through but also we plan on having some of our friends who are experts in their fields Yeah, so whether it's someone who is you know a doctor or a sheriff's deputy or right someone who's in works in public schools or Yes, yeah for responders like we can you know Talking about you know mental health our own insecurities our own like thoughts and feelings on things that are happening in the world If you're interested in hearing that we would love for you to come along with us If you're not and you're like listen, I'm just here for the murder in the mystery. That's totally fine It does it will not hurt our feelings. We would love to see you on the you know on our next adventure But we will still be over here on Mount mysteries. We'll just be here once a month But yeah, well in our first episode of the new podcast which is deep thoughts with Holly and hey We'll have a whole intro different themes on those things a whole you know new social media page for that So Facebook new and all that stuff.
We hope you follow us But yes, I think that our first episode then will be the following week which would be October 9th Yeah, so we've got a lot to do in a short amount of time But we can get it done because we are a lot of pressure on ourselves because we are currently recording this September 5th So you're hearing this October Almost a month after we've recorded this to say something could go crazy in the next month Yeah, that is our plan to get out to you And so I think we agreed upon the plan would be that we would do Three weeks of this podcast so weekly episodes that air on Thursday as well and then take the break from this podcast and air One mountain mystery is that right? Is that how we plan to do it? Yeah, I don't know, you know, we're still figure we're still thinking out I just don't know what else I was like we're trying to do this so it takes a little bit off exactly And we will have some fun things to absolutely like cute little questionnaires and yeah like fun little things Yeah, so we hope that that you come with us Over to our new platform if you just want to hear you know your two friends chatting it up about life and our Fittering friends for now. Yeah, you know things things that maybe you want to hear who knows Or not, but we definitely will still be over here on Mountain History is we're just scaling it back a little bit So I mean right now we kind of want to like this is the decision that we have made for ourselves But that doesn't mean that we don't want to hear feedback from you Also, whether that's encouraging feedback like go get them tigers or if that's y'all suck I'm not listening to anything that you're doing forget that I'm not listening to your mysteries and murder.
That's okay, too But we want to hear your feedback and we love to hear what are you struggling with what you know in our society? There are so many things that are happening right now So what is it that you know is do you have a moral dilemma at work? Are you struggling in your relationship? You know, what are the things that are happening because girlfriends boyfriends we can relate Absolutely a hundred percent.
Yeah, we've uh, you know, and we'll be sharing a lot of you know our own experiences and our own You know thoughts on things obviously our own deep thoughts over on these thoughts with Polly and Haley But yeah, we hope to see you there if not we totally understand again We are fully prepared for this to flop, but that's true. We just like my boobs My left one is that the one that's bigger? Yes Man she's flopping. She's bad.
It's bad times over there. Anyway, so that's just something you know We'll probably talk more about Haley's boobs on Haley's Thoughts with Polly and Haley. Yeah, we love that kind of stuff But yes, please feel free to join us. We can't wait for this ride.
You know, it's scary, but I'm telling you I'm telling you it's gonna be worth it So if you just stick with us come to the other side, it's great over here. We hope yeah, we're also terrified But it's gonna be fun. I'm a little more confident. I think Haley's a little more nervous I'm not always the case It's not and I'm like incredibly terrified that this is gonna be a total train wrecking a disaster But I'm fully okay with that if it is we'll just quit and go back to murder because maybe that's where our safe space Maybe that's what it is But we we kick ourselves if we didn't try to you know Do something that we have always wanted to do yeah because of my not us exactly not exactly and we could end up with not two Not two and a half But three listeners Yes, I'll be incredible incredible.
That's the hope so I I just personally want to say it from the bottom of my heart Thank you so much for five years of love and laughter and Listening to some of these horrific stories and being there to cheer us on and sending us your kind words And I think the things that that really get to me the most are the emails of people saying like wow You know you got me through my post-partum depression or you know My daughter you know got after me because I was listening to you guys again in the shower Or you know just just whatever because that really means a lot to me and I know you know to us Yeah, and you know Cheers to five years and cheers to five years. I think you know however many more you allow us to Continue this and be a part of your lives. I know it's gonna look a little bit different, but we're still here We're not going anywhere in fact we're just expanding. Yeah, we're just kind of like my waistline.
We're in chin outs All right, y'all we've rambled enough and you'll get a little bit more of that over on our only a little more orchestrated ramble but Yeah, we are excited about All this new stuff.
