Another Brick in the Wall

Johnston's history of public education is pretty reflective of North Carolina's own history of public education...Except when it's not. Historically, Johnston may be (perhaps surprisingly) a little bit of outlier in public education in the south. Jumping into early colonial period, we examine why northern English colonies and southern English colonies just developed differently and how that early development influenced our value systems, especially regarding public education.
