Another Fork in the Road: Recovery After Stroke - Substitute Host, Cam Compton

Cam Compton Sits in for Donna O'Donnell Figurski   Cam will interview Avi who was an up and coming EMT/paramedic, with many experiences. But at the age of 33, he suffered a stroke during surgery. While Avi still has balance issues and problems with aphasia, he continues to move forward. His expressive aphasia is what he says frustrates him the most but, he works daily in trying to overcome it. He works as a EMT/paramedic and volunteers his time also. His mission is in aphagia advocacy  and  in helping people with disabilities experience all sorts of outdoor activities with his group, New York Outdoors Disabilities. As Avi says, the sky is the limit. He believes that you join for adventure and find confidence, encouragement, excitement, inspiration, and joy through outdoor activities and sports, which New York Outdoors Disabilities promotes.     Every TBI survivor and caregiver has encountered a fork in the road that has diverted his or her life-plan. A car accident, a fall from the roof, doing one more chin-up, or a door literally slamming one in the face are just some causes of traumatic brain injury. College plans, walking down the aisle in the perfect dress, or the coveted job quickly slip from reality as dreams turn to struggle. These unexpected life-happenings that divert one from his or her chosen path in life can be devastating. But as Yogi Berra once said, "If you come to a fork in the road, take it." Life is all about choices!
