Another Gov’t Committee, More Talk While Businesses Get Robbed
from Hector And Mike Experience - Common Sense In An Uncommon World · host Hector and Mike Experience
Talk is cheap, especially when people are stealing from you. But that’s the best Sacramento can do when it comes to retail theft in California. Another committee meeting and more discussion in the halls of the Capitol, while the businesses outside the secure halls of the Capitol are getting destroyed by retail theft. You don’t need talk, you need action. And the action is simple. When someone steals something, arrest them, prosecute them, throw them in jail even if it’s for a week or a month or a year. Actions have consequences, that’s where you start fixing this problem. Law enforcement has repeatedly pointed to Proposition 47 as a reason for this increase in property crime. This law says that if you steal less than $950 it’s a misdemeanor. This includes stealing a firearm, as long as it’s with less than $950. Absurd. This should be a felony and there should be jail time. It is not just Proposition 47, in certain areas in our state we have Zero Bail. That leads to stories like, “Glendora police arrested and released a man three times in one day, blaming California's new zero-bail policy for their inability to keep the suspect behind bars.” https://abc7.com/california-zero-bail-prison-overcrowding-glendora-police-ca/6144190/ Catch and release is fine for fishing, but it does nothing to protect our businesses, our shoppers and our communities. Catch and prosecute and jail – now that’s a real solution.
