"Oh, it's just baby fat". "She's just a little plump - she'll grow out of it." "He's not overweight - he just big-boned". Sound familiar? Cute sayings to justify obesity in our children. But the fact is childhood obesity rates have tripled over the past three decades, and in the African American community almost 40% of children are overweight or obese! Eleven percent of Black kids two-five are obese, and African American girls ages 12-19 have the highest prevalence of obesity than any other group.
