Anthony “Citric” Campos

from The Official Concept Hosted by Allan Campbell

Anthony “Citric” Campos is an American actor, comedian, musician, and producer of Latino heritage whose career spans film, television, music, and stand-up comedy. Born and raised in Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles, he overcame early involvement in gang activity, a period that included time spent in Nayarit, Mexico at his family’s direction, before channeling his energy into performance following the birth of his son. In the early 1990s he emerged in the hip-hop scene as a member of Brown Town Looters, a group that scored a hit single in Japan and performed at the Japan Lowrider Super Show, later continuing with the Spanish-language ensemble Pueblo Cafe. His acting breakthrough arrived with the role of the Secretary of Defense in Mike Judge’s cult comedy Idiocracy (2006), a part secured after a casting director noticed him through his music promotions and one that established a lasting professional association with Judge while showcasing his natural comedic timing. He subsequently portrayed Manolo, the kindhearted and capable sidekick to George Lopez, across 24 episodes of the television series Lopez (2016–2017), a character written with him in mind and infused with semi-autobiographical themes of mentorship and support for formerly incarcerated individuals. Most recently he has voiced Emilio, Bobby Hill’s sous chef, mentor, and voice of reason, in the 2025 revival of the Emmy Award-winning animated series King of the Hill, a recurring role that continues his collaboration with Judge and places him among a select group of Latino performers in a major returning franchise. Additional credits include supporting work in Harsh Times opposite Christian Bale, appearances in Silicon Valley, contributions to Grand Theft Auto V, stand-up performances across the United States, and producer involvement in independent projects such as Big Citrics Big Break. Through these accomplishments Campos has built a body of work that reflects both personal resilience and a consistent commitment to authentic Latino representation in mainstream entertainment.
