Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony stepped in for Corbin Carroll on Team USA for the World Baseball Classic. The 21-year-old wasted no time crushing a home run in Tuesday's exhibition matchup against the San Francisco Giants.
The powerful shot sailed into right center field during an in-game interview with Giants pitcher Logan Webb on the broadcast. Webb appeared impressed by Anthony's display of power right then and there. Meanwhile, Garrett Crochet sent him a direct message shortly after watching the homer. Anthony made his major league baseball debut last season, playing 71 games for Boston.
He showed huge promise with a 292 batting average, 396 on-base percentage, 75 hits, 8 home runs, and 32 runs batted in. As the former top prospect in baseball, he turns 22 in May and figures to take on a key spot for the Red Sox next year, either in the outfield or as designated hitter.
