Anthropology, Archeology, and Reformation with Cecilia Porter

from The Holden Village Podcast · host The Holden Village Podcast

Cecilia Porter holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from the University of Victoria, and a master’s degree in archaeology from the University of Calgary. In between she worked on the central coast of BC on archaeological projects that made it a priority to collaborate with indigenous nations and work within their frameworks. For her Masters degree her research once again focused on working with an indigenous nation, this time the Inuit of northern Hudson Bay who wished to reach beyond their remote Arctic location to tell their youth and all the world about their impressive history, in order to bridge gaps between peoples. This work is important on an international level because knowledge and understanding fights racism and discrimination. Porter has traveled extensively to places such as Africa, South America, Greenland and tiny indigenous villages in the Canadian Arctic and northwest coast, expanding her worldview. To visit Cecilia's Masters work, a panoramic interactive tour of Arvia'juaq, in the Canadian Arctic, visit: http://www.aina.ucalgary.ca/arviajuaq/Tour.htmlTo learn more about Holden Village, visit: http://www.holdenvillage.org or to listen to more audio recordings visit: http://audio.holdenvillage.org
