Malachi taught in Israel about 100 years after the Babylonian Exile. The people had returned to the Land. The temple was rebuilt. The walls were rebuilt. Nevertheless, the hearts of the Israelites were not strong for God. They should have learned many spiritual lessons in captivity, but, ultimately, they were experiencing spiritual apathy.
