Yeah, the first phone call we've tried to get a new event the first phone call was really easy and then subsequent conversations have been difficult to say the least so We'll figure something out.
We'll try to get us out on an investigation mid-May. Yeah, we got it. It's gonna be a real busy season I'm sure oh, yeah, no, it'll be fun. Just this this particular venue is being a little trickier than and it'll be a great venue when we Can get it if we can get a little tricky.
Yep, and it's warm outside Maybe we can do an outdoor venue that might be where we go We'll figure it out and let you know as soon as we can that sounded good even just saying that outdoor venue And all right, I'm so ready for it to be warm. Yes, I am too and mid-May should be yeah Well, awesome. I think Maybe the warm weather is getting people out because we have not had any resident bills I remember this coming up last year and everybody starts getting out of the house the West phone calls we get Yeah, we actually had a little flurry of residential this the last six weeks or so But we have one that's in the works. We should hear about it.
You know, maybe here in the next couple weeks or so So hopefully we'll have a residential for you at our next podcast So check out our shop at advanced paranormal.com We've got all sorts of stuff out there We've got your sage braids and you know different items that you can purchase from us You can also go out and order merchandise tapestries all that kind of stuff We're also on YouTube and TikTok. It's been kind of crazy. So be looking for your stuff Hopefully it'll be there very soon So our main topic today, it's interesting so when I go and look for You know, I'll just kind of peruse the internet and just try to find topics and you know things we haven't talked about yet And I ran across this one. It's been a while ago And it just hasn't come up in the in the order yet but it's called Antrum the deadliest film ever made and I just kind of jotted it down and thought I all come back to it later and so you know, I'm setting up the schedule for our podcasts and I Thought we haven't done a movie for a while let's throw this one in there And I thought you know, maybe I should watch the movie before we talk about it, but I'm like the deadliest film ever made I don't know how to watch it and I thought no, I'm not gonna watch it because I'm chicken And I'm not gonna watch it. I thought we'll just you know, we'll just look it up and You know, I'm thinking that it's gonna tell me stories of all these people that watched it died or recursed or you know, all these mishaps and Yeah, that's not what it is.
But it's still kind of cool. So that's not what it is. What is it? Well, you know, it's coincidence could play a part of this too.
Just because sure there's been deaths but you know Structure collapse and and spike popcorn with LSD and you know, it's like a lot of the deaths happen to incidents where it was just a crowd problem Really a building disaster like Right, you know, I'm thinking I like the movie poltergeist because you know several of the actors and actresses on poltergeist had issues Yeah, like for the blonde girl that had the she had a stomach issue and died like at the age of 12 And then the girl that was the daughter the teenage daughter. She was killed by a stalker So, you know, there are some movies that do have what's strange things around them Yeah, and then I mean even with poltergeist, you know, there's several people and I think we have talked about it on a previous podcast years ago You know, just even paranormal sightings within the movie itself You know, they're supposedly a ghost in a curtain scene and you know different things and so that's what I thought this was But it's it's not we will tell you about it. This one kind of is more along the lines of the original Orson wells, I can't think of anything. We're of the world's the radio telecast war the world's and if you don't know about that This doesn't count as a spoiler because things that were done in the 1930s aren't spoilers Do that over 3-2 so Before we talk about the actual movie and from just to kind of give you a feel for what it's like is the Hg Well or some of us somebody else Unicorn brain remember I have the unicorn brain, you know the war of the world and the idea with the world the world So they didn't intend it to be a spoof they were just you know to radio radio was new They had this fun story of you know aliens are attacking the earth But they did it in such a way and radio his new and the story was so compelling that well It was very unique on how they did it for a radio drama also because they did it as if it were happening live I mean they cut away to you know and here's so-and-so with the news Person and then he would give a news report right and they didn't say hey We're just you know today's play is radio play is going to be you know They just it was like it was really happening and people panicked and people freaked out and they thought that the earth was actually being taken over By aliens.
I've never actually listened to this but I know about it well It was I have listened to it and you know it is introduced as a radio play in the beginning Their commercial breaks where they go you know and now back to our radio production of you know And there were radio commercials and then at the end there credits But obviously people tuned in in the middle didn't catch that or didn't remember it or didn't listen I didn't listen those are the ones that panic. Yeah, it was it was actually just presented as pure drama. Okay But yeah, they weren't trying to hoax anybody they were just great radio story Yeah, well, it was a masterful You know the person who put it on the radio production company the Mercury theater It was just incredible talent doing it too and very well done So you know a lot of people did believe it let you know the rest is history, right? And then you know, there's all the new docu-dramas, you know, I think of paranormal activity I think of Blair Witch Project where it's a movie, but it's kind of documentary style Yeah, the pilot found footage kinds of things a lot of times Yeah, you know, it's like oh look we found this footage of something that was going on and we're producing it And that's exactly what Antrim did and so the idea of Antrim it was put together by two Canadians I've got their names right here and it's actually they call it a Canadian mockumentary slash horror film and of course I can't find the names Oh, so the directors and writers are David Amitos I don't know if I'm pronouncing that right he actually wrote the screenplay and Michael Lassini Did the story and what they wanted to do is they wanted people so it's kind of all these elements that we've talked about put together They wanted people to think that it was actually the most deadly movie ever made and that by watching it bad things would happen They put in that found footage So the idea behind it is it's actually in two parts the first part is Kind of the documentary part where oh we found this 35 millimeter film, you know, it was made in the 70s It looks like a third unknown party is tampered with it.
You know, we don't know who's done this Part of the story was it had been shown or was gonna be shown at some film festivals in the 70s But the people that would screen it would die the producers and so it got they got lost and You know, it wasn't there, but there was a you know, people had died It looks like it's got Russian subtitles or Russian titles to it But it's very clearly, you know, American kind of in you know, American English Actors and everything else so there's some some incongruousies Right with the with the film part of it, right and then the second part, you know, they've gone through the documentary of oh, we found this How we got it how we got it looks like it's been hampered with and then the next part cuts to You know that this supposedly resurfaced 1970s film from the 70s and What made it really fun, you know, they showed this at some film festivals, but at the very start of the movie There's a legal notice and I'm just gonna read you this legal notice So it pops up and it says by continuing to watch this film You agree that the producers of this film have made you aware of the history and dangers associated with andrum the producers Distributors cast crew unions and theater management on all levels are released of all liability for any event that occurs to you during or after your screening Including but not limited to illness injury mortal danger or death if you disagree in any way with this notice You must leave the theater now and then there was like a 30 second countdown that they waited I mean a literal countdown of probably one of those thirty second clocks Yeah So that they could so that they could leave, you know one of the things I thought was okay This also increased the running time of the movie And I abbreviated things thinking oh, I'll know what that means later and then some reading that now I don't Search the depths of my unicorn brain to figure out what that was anyway, sorry. I met you were saying I lost my train of thought I was trying to think about handwriting that you can't do cipher later. Oh, that's me every day What's the first letter? Well, it looks like a treble cleft.
I'm supposed to sing Yeah, so yeah, so now that I've you know researched a little bit. I kind of actually want to watch it maybe so The film was produced in 2018 yes, and it's a baby Yeah, I think Amazon Prime I believe you can get it on Prime Video and if you go out and just do like even I think it's a YouTube Search it'll go out there and there's a place where you can buy a rent for $2.99 or $3.99 something like that Yes, I'll make you sign a waiver to if you were electronic no, I think you just have to turn it off And you only have 30 seconds and and and oh and when I saw some YouTube videos on it They were talking to you know the supposed producers and they said that they had never Completed that you know never watch the entire film in its entire you know the film in its entirety that they always you know Purposely missed something so that it wouldn't you know the curse wouldn't befall them. Well that won't add to the mystique at all Yeah, there's a lot of mystique around it. They've done a lot of a lot of things to really build it up even to yeah This seems pretty crafty, you know at first you think how this is just dumb, but this is this has been assembled with you know pretty carefully You know as it seems to be working there's a there's a cult following yeah, that's what I was gonna say is It's interesting and in a minute.
I'll read some of the reviews that I ran across and there I mean it goes across the board But one of them did say you know it's kind of cheesy But would probably pick up a huge cult following Yeah a cult classic at some point and as Raven was saying that they said that there are a lot of weird things that seem to have been cut into the original you know the original film that somebody had taken it and and splice and other Films you know information into it one of them They said was some top secret military documents and and the idea is that people were killed because they may have seen these top secret military documents But I think it's all gimmicky No absolutely that was part of the gimmick But it's one one more thing that they threw in to add to that mystique that Emma was talking about yeah, so the second part this this Supposeded you know lost footage and I will not be ruining anything You can still watch this movie and I'm not spoiling it for you but basically there's a brother and a sister and the pet dog was euthanized and Little boy asked his mom, you know did our dog go to heaven and she says no it was a bad dog it went to hell And you know she's kind of teasing him in a way For all dogs go to heaven I guess I guess and this is a movie about dogs go to the way in his dog it is Weird so then so was kucho That's a very bad There's some creepy anyway So this little boy kind of has all these flashbacks and apparently in one of these flashbacks He remembers that the dog bit him and that's why they put the dog down and he has these disturbing dreams And then the sister obtained some cult Artifact and some book of spells or something. Well, yeah, but I think she I think you know she got it from an imaginary friend You know she's just making it up. I think just trying to scare him And I was trying to take notes to give you a very step-by-step basic synopsis and at some point I gave up because it just got super weird But basically everything culminates to the sister takes him into this forest to dig a hole to hell so they can rescue the dog If it just this probably will surprise you But it took one months to film they filmed it in California They had a very very low budget and they actually filmed under budget and the little clips I've seen of the movie this is zero shock to me. It looks very very campy to me Well, how much is a VHS tape, you know Well, and but they filmed the the found footage part purposely to look old you know what I mean It looks like that 1970s, you know less definition, you know kind of grainy yellowy seep atone You know, you know and I think that's by design because they could you know they got high definition Thanks, this was actually you know filmed and produced in 20, you know 2017 2018 So kind of like the the video recorder my dad had this out on a shoulder like a boombox and you stick a VHS in it Can't record.
Yeah, I'm curious on how they did it, but that's probably something like that to get that kind of quality You know I remember in 1982 that was pretty amazing quality about it. It's it's bad. It's so bad. Yeah, it's visibly bad I mean well and then my dad would come up to something I'm recording you and you're like what just sitting here say something Hello, yeah, we've all done that right so they did do a good job in the in the production of that to make that part of the The film that I saw you know look old Look like it was found footage and I also understand you know part of the the documentary part of this talks about the the woman That actually acquired the film and how they found it at an estate sale or something You know and she she knew what it was and she you know She had heard about it from the 1970s at quite an interesting story about you know How the film was acquired and then how they got it and we're now trying to you know take it public and take it mainstream You know in 2018 so that people could see this stuff So did you actually watch any little bits and pieces of it?
I watched parts of it on some YouTube videos I didn't watch the actual thing but they had several clips where they were showing parts of the film that were quite interesting So was it first person like this kind of stuff that we give me headache? No, it was more the first part of it was more documentary I mean you know kind of sitting down talking with people from what I could see like when they were interviewing this woman about how She found the film it would have been like somebody sitting down in interviewing It's not it's not the Blair Witch you know running around with the camera on your your shoulder Because that the actual film part of the film You know the found footage was a 1970s production and so it shot you know showing the children you know digging the hole to hell And from what they sounded like it sounds like it goes through the different you know the different What is it Dante seven circles of hell as you dig deeper? There's a different layer you know seven levels of hell and they I think they called them layers But yeah that kind of a thing but it's done that part of it is done like a 1970s You know think of movie of the week kind of movie would be done So that's the found footage so it's not the run around with the camera on your shoulder like in Blair Witch project You and footage it's not like some amateur thing. Yeah, yeah, this is a movie This was a real movie that was supposedly shown at some film festivals We're trying to be shown at film festivals in the 70s But everybody died and then the prints were lost and then this one was found and they're bringing it now You know and again, they were film festival kinds of things so it wasn't you know great quality and even in the 70s But it's it's very it's very movie-ish It's not like the Blair Witch project where you're I did ask because I was really excited to go see paranormal activity when it came out.
Uh-huh. What was that like 2012 or something 2011? And but those first person kind of shaky things. Oh, I had it the worst headache and so then paranormal activity too I didn't see any the rest of them.
I had to sit there. I'd close my eyes. I'd open I'd watch for 30 seconds And I closed my eyes because it's a little insider information here Raven can't even watch for shooter Computer games on the TV. I can't oh the worst headache.
I can play sometimes things can be tedious, you know, it's That's our Alexa talking. Sorry You get you know, you can get really sucked into some of those things you can't know what I like to however we've done a little bit of Some of the virtual reality stuff my son brought over some some games the other day and and Raven really got into those Well, I can do it. I'm the person I can't watch other people from their perspective It wins me out my head like you couldn't be a passenger in your grandfather's car because it's driving made you sick No, I can be the passenger because I'm experiencing the same thing But to watch to watch somebody else play a first-person game. Oh, I don't know if you remember the game Turak We are so off the subject.
Do you remember the game Turak like an old Nintendo 64 game? Oh, I would get the worst headache watching people play that if you remember Turak Let us know. Okay. Let's go back to the movie So this actually like you said chat it was made in 2018 and it was at the Knight Mares Film Festival Which is like a horror indie film festival and this movie didn't win any Awards, but it was nominated for Best Horror Feature Best Director Feature and Best Cinematography Feature So I thought that was interesting and this was the it was in the Knight Mares Film Festival 2019 So they were probably saying the best cinematography was it looked really crappy like it would have been 70s So I was kind of looking around the IMBD rating was a 4.9 out of 10 And then I thought I'm gonna pop on over to Rotten Tomatoes and see what they say so Rotten Tomatoes the tomato meter And again, I have crappy handwriting.
I should be a doctor based on my handwriting But the tomato meter was either 75 or 78 percent. Wow, I'm gonna go with a five And what was the credit creating but the audience was 45 percent? Let's work live with the IMBB. Yeah, and so I'm thinking you know the tomato meter.
Maybe maybe just their cinematography excellence So I read a bunch of you know, you go into Rotten Tomatoes and you can read Little reviews and I didn't write them all down I just wrote down to that I just thought we're funny and they were all over the border people that hated it There were people that loved it and everything in between But one guy said that he respected how extra it is So extra if you talk teenage speak, it's extra And I have to tell you okay, I didn't watch the movie. I didn't even watch any clips Not because I was scared of it I just didn't have time but I did see one still shot apparently there's a demon in the movie And that's one of the things they said when they were you know trying to figure out what to do and what kind of a screenplay to write They actually when they decided what to do and decided on the basic story You know, they did a lot of research on the devil and on demons because they wanted that aspect and that because they're you know You know, digging a whole to hell But they showed a picture of you know on one of the sites I was researching of a demon that's in the movie and that demon is Really dorky looking and it has a very very large Manhood part it was a little disturbing. So was this supposedly a real demon and not kind of the the big statue that they show I think it was the statue okay, cuz there's like a big statue that they show and look like it was on Like in a parade or something like they were carrying it on their shoulders or I don't know It looked like a statue to me. Was this in the found footage or or?
I don't know it was it was just you know, I'm looking through websites. There was just this one still picture So I don't know how it okay, I saw some footage about it And I think I know what you're talking about and it's it's actually You remember when we talked about the raisin bowl in the torture episode way back where they had this brass bowl that they Would open up and put the people in and then light a fire under it and basically cook the people in that This was a metal statue that they did the same thing with the sacrifice children to The devil so I think that's what the image that you're looking at that you saw I think that's what it was I saw some some clips of this where they had the two children and they were getting ready to do that And lighting the fire under them, but it was it's it's a very disturbing With the goat head and the whole yeah, the whole yeah, it wasn't even cool I mean sometimes you go okay, you know, I'm not into a state of the art But that's kind of cool looking you know the way they stylize it. This was just like a fourth grader made it I love fourth graders, but I don't know fourth grader art shouldn't be in a movie out So well came in under budget remember yeah, it's true under a very low budget and I'll just just the I didn't like it I didn't like the style but it was and fourth graders one I hope you're not listening to this episode, but you guys do amazing art. I've seen fourth grader Awesome, okay, and I told you about the one critic that said, you know He thought it could be have a large cult following at some point But this fellow Roger Moore said it isn't amateurish enough to be charming or professional enough to pull off the con job That they were trying to do to make you believe it was legit I can't really tell you if I liked it or not because I haven't seen it But I don't know that I want to I'll just watch not really breaking.
Oh, no That's like her favorite movie. That's my that's my really dorky cult following movie when when Raven is really sick I will sit down and watch not show really great with her to make her feel better not really braids the best movie ever You know I thoroughly enjoyed not to leave right that is that is a hard wordy delightful You and I will have to get together and we'll watch not show me you know I actually and people hate me for this, but I would rather watch not to leave right again the princess bride Princess brides, okay, you know what I say to too many times. Okay, here's a movie So off the subject have you guys ever seen the pirate movie? Oh, okay?
Where's the not show really break? No, I haven't sounds like a Lego movie. Oh, the part of the part movie has Christian nickel It's like an 80s. It's an 80s pirates of everything It's an 80s pirates of pins dance, but really really bad.
It's amazing. It's probably my second favorite movie I think it's probably my first worst movie. Yeah, so imagine pirates of pins dance, but with Christian nickel and 80s It's like they're trying to do that weird not truly breathing But it's 80 style but they insert some really cool 80s music in it and there might be a little animation in it folks You'll never get that hour and a half back of your life. Oh, you have to watch it.
You have to watch this chat You had to watch this? Yes, I've watched it with Raven. Oh, now I'm in the mood to watch it again We're gonna watch it tonight. We're gonna have a we're gonna have a party.
Okay. You'll have to have you guys come over We'll watch oh Raven. You should watch it twice watch it twice. I'll watch it and then not show Libre right after there you go Chat is not happy Rogue, have you seen in either of these movies?
I have not but don't be surprised by that you haven't seen not truly bring I haven't I actually Googled it and I haven't seen princess bride I haven't seen any of these okay. We have work to do this summer No doubt okay, so Antram the deadliest film ever made if you dare You think we could get awkward Ashley of YouTube to review it. Oh, we should we should center an email So awkward Ashley does a YouTube channel and she's like a sub you know millennial that watches classic movies that you know She's never seen I mean things like Star Wars. I mean, it's amazing the movie.
She hasn't seen Star Wars She hasn't seen anything anything. She's seen nothing and so she's watching you know classic movies and giving her her review on it It's amazing. This would be a really great one for her. Okay.
Yeah, we'll tell awkward Ashley that she's To watch this one. All right. I can't look forward to that. I can't wait.
Okay, so Emmett has his new segment And he was brought to you by Oteos and Oteos is amazing and I still we still need to go eat there Again, I'm still in the mood to eat food, but we just have a chance to so Emmett What have you got for us today? Well, you know first thing I want to do is tell you about the coolest thing I I got one of these 50,000 milliwatt blue lasers that will start fires and that sounds awesome. I know it's yeah It's like I'm 12 years old so like you have to have some kind of an FCC license to operate it Well, you should have some kind of license. I didn't think I didn't think it were legal You know I thought these things got confiscated by customs, but it showed up in the mail and the darn thing actually works And I'm kind of amazed but you know I try to figure out a way to use that in paranormal.
Yeah, don't use it to paint, you know commercial airliners Well, it's funny. It will no you can't the law read you cannot point a laser at a person animal or vehicle and that pretty much covers everything So never ever point a laser at any of those people we don't feel especially high-power blue lasers exactly Yeah, these are these are best left for skinwalker ranch kind of thing But they have a use in paranormal research. I know it's been tried to use them to modulate Spirit voices, you know by them just interrupting the beam. It's converted to audio.
So you know, there's the possibility I don't think you need 50,000 watts to know what's to do that but that's a possibility But the other thing you know, it doesn't really go to tail But I wanted to talk about you know what if you should bring tools along with investigation and obviously You know, sometimes you're getting a screwdriver or something or a flashlight or a loar pliers but multi tools. I mean we carry enough, right? Yeah, you carry a toolbox to know but Little jeweler screwdrivers amazing how many times people's batteries run out you need that little that little jeweler You know Phillips Ed. So you know, who's that was a screw-on battery department?
Right? So I'm trying to think of the it's a it's a ghost. It's a paranormal team in Florida I think it's called ghost of augin team augustine Augustine, you know, they have and I've got one in my kit. They have a little it's a little tool It has it's a flashlight, but it also has three different screwdriver heads kind of an all-in-one thing Several years ago.
I ordered three or four of them and gave them to some of the the Wisps people that kind of went above and beyond See something like that's all you need. Yeah, that's perfect. Yeah, so I've got a little a little these little multi tools You know like leather, but you need anything that big but Gerber makes one. It's called a dime.
I think it's tiny It's only like an inch and a half long. You know, it'll fit on your DJ But I have one here. I can show you anyway Sorry, we keep talking over each other send us a picture and we'll throw it up on YouTube. Oh, it's just a little tiny little It's a little yeah, exactly.
Oh, yeah, I mean just you need the most basic tools, but there's cool little cheats you can bring along So that's something to think about and oftentimes you need the jeweler screwdrivers, you know, you think of a regular leather man And you go I need to get that tiny tiny one Phillips head screw out. It's like that's not gonna work Yeah, take a tiny one because some of those and that's a good idea look over your equipment and see exactly what you're gonna be And if you don't mind me adding to that just along the same lines in my in my kit, you know, I've got a couple of band-aids and tampons and Butments and you know because you're out and about and you never know what you're gonna need a little bit We carry the first aid kit. So yeah, yeah, you plan ahead exactly. Yeah, we're you know, bee sting anti-venom things like that You never know especially if you're on an outdoor, you know, warm weather Yeah, and especially something that you can carry with you like you say if you're outdoor, you know, a lot of times you'll be near the car So you can get you know to things that are in your first aid kit at the car You might not take that actually, you know into the venue or your app But you know it's gonna be within you know a hundred yards or something like that But there's other times if you're out and about it's nice to have some of those things one of the big ones is in the summer Especially mosquito spray is a little bit of mosquito spray available in fact.
We've done that a lot of our advanced paranormal Events that we do in the summers we make sure we have mosquito spray because not everybody thinks about that when you go out on a venue and so I've never tried the old boy scout trick of rubbing a dryer sheet on your skin I haven't as a mosquito repellent. You know what I tried it scoffingly and it worked I was gonna say I've never had a they didn't mosquitoes were biting that day But when I tried it there was mosquitoes biting that day everybody else it worked so like so you only have yeah You only have to go to Benson Grissomile once in the summer and you will always take mosquitoes right with you talk about donating blood Yep, Benson Grissomile, you know it's a milder's water. There's little swampy areas it can get and 25,000 skittles Yeah, you can be carried off. Oh, yeah lots of things to think about so that's about it for me for this time So before the junk drawer I want to remind you about Supernatural Hour swag at advanced paranormal calm where we all need to go for all of our Supernatural and paranormal needs and I still need a notebook Yeah, there's no books everybody's a notebook.
Yeah, but are they advanced paranormal notebooks? No, you've got to go up to that They should be can I tell you about my swag store? I have a swag story. Okay, let's hear it So I'm about 99% sure that I bought a supernatural hour hoodie, but I can't find it and I mean I really can't find it It's like on it's a ported out of here So but now I'm questioning it's like did I have one am I looking for something?
I don't own Do I have one and it's lost or did I never have one and I'm just inventing one see my brain works on unicorn I don't even know if I might be looking for something that I've never purchased That's the brain you're working with people right there. All right. Are you talking about you and a super natural hour hoodie? Have you ever seen me in a supernatural hoodie?
Yes, I have not a pullover. It's a pullover. How does it hurt? It's a pullover.
I have seen you and it's not a long-sleeve shirt. No, it's a hoodie a thick sweatshirt hurting that says Supernatural hour on it. Yes, so you said it has been proved so I do have one now the question is where is it? Yes, I can't help you with that, but I have seen you wait.
Isn't that it your closet right there? Okay, Raven, maybe you need to demand it back I'm kidding. I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
I'm kidding. Not from not from hoodie Not from rogue, but when we talked about a ports last time one of the things is we actually Have a split-two speaker that went missing for a long time and It came back when I demanded it back and Raven demanded it back and like the next day it showed up and it had been missing for a year or more At least two years to three. Okay, jump drawer. So I actually really like this one and now we need to go to England.
So there is a castle in England and it's called Almwick Gardens, A-L-N-W-I-C-K And Almwick Castle is actually if you look it up, it's gonna look familiar to you because it It's a stand-in as Hogwarts in the first two Harry Potter films. So there we go. Got a Harry Potter reference. Got your Harry Potter reference in but So when you see it, you might go, oh, I've seen that before.
It's from Harry Potter. So what it is is It has a garden and the garden is specifically Plants that can kill you. Okay. That's all it is.
It's plants that can kill you. There's great Yeah, there's great big black gates that are all around it and it has you know signs with skulls and crossbones and it says warning everything in here is poison As it's legit unlike the warning for the movie we talked about today They're beautiful. They're well curated. The garden contains about a hundred legendary killer plants and so on.
Like nightshade. Yeah, so that's the first one actually So I'm going to see if I can test my Latin skills here. Atropa Belladonna, which is nightshade. Deadly nightshade, not like any.
Just not regular nightshade. Not regular nightshade. Deadly nightshade. There's Strychnos Nux Vomica, which sounds a lot like a vomit to me.
That's Strychnine. Conium Maclatum, which is Hemlock. And if you know how to actually say these words and you're making fun of me, just imagine me when I'm trying to speak Arabic. Okay.
So you can actually go on tours and the guides will take you around and they'll explain you know the deadly properties. And it says I'm just gonna read this because it's funny. Well keeping their do well and curious children away from the plants. Warning, do not touch any of the plants.
Don't even smell them. There are plants here that can kill you. If touching a plant can kill you. I'm not taking my kids there because kids touch everything and even if you tell them no, they still touch stuff.
Kids are staying in the car. Which is bad. So you know, don't take your kids here. Anyway, exactly.
I love that by the way. That's me. That's my name. That's out.
So the Duchess of the Castle is actually a patron. Not one of our patrons. Unfortunately. The patron of the guard should be amazing to be one of our patrons.
So up until 1995 she was just Jane Percy, mother of four. Just kind of doing her thing. And in 1995 her husband unexpectedly became the 12th. I can't say that.
12th Duke of Northumberland. Oh my gosh. Try again. Try this out.
In 1995 her husband unexpectedly became the 12th Duke of Northumberland. His brother kind of just died very unexpectedly. You know, second son doesn't expect to inherit, right? But boom, there he is.
And all of a sudden they've got this castle. And castles. I mean, I don't know this from personal experience. But I have heard that they're very expensive to keep up.
And so, you know, she's like, okay, we got this castle now. Let's go check it out. I would be doing that. And as she's looking around, she went around, they've got these fantastic gardens, but they've kind of become overgrown.
You know, formal gardens were very much a part of, of, you know, England and the culture. Because, you know, back in the day they didn't have internet, they didn't have video games, they didn't have podcasts, you'd go stroll in the gardens, you'd have parties, you'd have tourists, you know, you'd do whatever. Play cricket, not cricket, croquet. And she did a little research.
And these gardens had been originally planted by the first Duke in 1750. And depending on who owned the castle at the time, it would, you know, fluctuate depending on what they liked and what they didn't like. And then in World War II, it actually became a victory garden of vegetables, you know, to help. But they weren't serving the night shade and the ham lot, correct?
Correct. So in 1950, it closed as a big garden, but she decided to restore it to a new modern garden. And she just must have a really dark, you like her like me, exactly. I think this is cool.
So her poison garden opened in 2005. And it's just a portion of the ambitious 14 acre new gardens. And I don't know if she's planning on putting poison stuff in all 14 acres. I think this is funny.
So, you know, back in the day, they would have these apothecary gardens where you plant healing herbs. She specifically shied away from plant healing medicinal plants and instead sought out hard to get down the poisons. There's also narcotic plants like opium poppies, cannabis, magic mushrooms, datera and tobacco. Many of the plants that she has require special government permission to grow.
But being a wife of that was an Earl or a Duke. A Duke, which is pretty high up. Yeah, she can probably get that. I think the only person who her Duke is Prince.
So because the danger posed by these poison, this plant's are very real. It says that some in there can kill her sick and you just by touching them, some of the plants are caged. And the garden is secured every evening behind gates. And there's 24 hour security watch on it.
Also there, there's a multi-level tree house and a bamboo labyrinth. Very cool. So there's several phases that are planned. It says that, you know, funds in the millions of pounds have not been as forthcoming lately as they have been passed.
Anyway, there you go. So it's like a similar personality to people that like, poison is fish or reptiles or something like that, baby. Yeah, of course, right? Every half hour.
So you have to wait long to go in and maybe die by brushing against something you want not to. So it's still cool. So keeping the castles updated and maintained gets really, really expensive. And back at the turn of the century, the late 1800s and the early 1900s, there were a lot of British princes, dukes, arles that actually married American ericists, like from the Vanderbelts and the different things.
And a lot of these marriages were done, one for the American families to gain a title that their daughter is a prince and their grandchildren you know are part of the royalty. But another major part of that was they brought the funds from the Golden Age, the Gilded Age, money in the late 1890s and early 1900s. And a lot of that money was done to refurbish those castles. In fact, Winston Churchill's mother was one of these American ericists that was brought over and married to an English.
I don't remember if he was a duke or an earl, but into the Churchill family. And that money was brought over and there was a lot of marriages that were done, almost arranged marriages even that late, you know, into the early 1900s. So the idea of, you know, how do you make money or keep money to keep these priceless castles up to date, you know, maintained is there and some of those are now like World Heritage sites that were done by money that was done by these American ericists. Right, you go over to England and almost every castle you can have a tour of.
The other family lives in a certain wing and they open it up as a museum and a tour just to bring in the money. But I never, I mean, I've been there, I've been through several castles, but I never went to the poison castle. You didn't get to that one, huh? No, but I'm about to listen.
Had you known about it? I wonder what the gift shop has. You know, can you buy some opium? Can you buy?
Well, you can buy something like a bug. You're going to need to have, you know, the guy on the side that's selling it. If you ever get to England, you're going to need a bunter too. Right?
Just because there's so much to see. Right now, I'm just moving. Stonehenge, the ancient Ramian. Yeah.
Okay. All right. Well, new range over in Ireland. All right.
Well, stay spooky, my hunchy friends. Love you, necklace. Until next time. Hey, have a good night.
