Anxiety, Acceptance & Therapy - Jo Johnson

from Life & Leadership · host New Ground Churches

Season 3 // Episode 14   In today’s episode Jez speaks to Jo Johnson a clinical psychologist who specialises in MS and brain injury. She has written a range of family related publications and is now offering psychological intervention and workplace training using the acceptance commitment therapeutic model (a more recent version of CBT). Jo has also released several publications including two psychological novels Surviving Me (shorturl.at/hpuBN) in 2019 and more recently Surviving Her (https://tinyurl.com/muh85adk)   Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) summary: Get in contact with and consider your core values Develop small action patterns that help move toward those values   Jo said to ask the question: what would my values lived out look like on a camera? For example: “I want to be a supportive mum.” Followed by the question: “What’s the smallest action I could do in support of that value?” Jo said that ACT is about: values driven action vs actions driven by negative thoughts and feelings.   A great quote and insight from today's episode was: "avoidance increases anxiety"
