Mientras se encontraban en París con Chris Kimsey grabando su próximo material, se estrenó en mayo de 1983 el filme Let's Spend the Night Together, un documental de Hal Ashby, grabado durante las presentaciones del grupo en el Sun Devil Stadium de la Universidad del Estado de Arizona en Tempe, Arizona y el Meadowlands Arena de East Rutherford, Nueva Jersey durante su pasada American Tour 1981. Meses antes de la salida de su álbum firman un contrato para la realización de cuatro álbumes de estudio con la CBS Records. El 7 de noviembre publican Undercover, promocionado días antes por el sencillo «Undercover of the Night». El álbum fue considerado como un intento de Jagger por conseguir un sonido compatible con las nuevas tendencias musicales, pero a pesar del entusiasmo inicial de la crítica, la producción con abundante contenido sexual y políticamente violento, fue fríamente recibido por su público. Mientras tanto Ron Wood atravesaba una crisis de salud debido a su adicción a las drogas.
