ANZAC Day reflections of Military and mental illness | Shattered - The Podcast [STP]
from Mark MI words · host Mark Brosnan
Although I never served, the military has always been part of my life. Growing up and army brat, with a father and mother who were soldiers (also grandfathers and great grandfathers), the Australian Army has always been a part of my life. Today, the mental health struggles that veterans go through are personified for me in the suffering of my brother (a veteran of Afghanistan). The first time i was 'glad' to have PTSD is the first time my brother confided his struggles to me. I was able to understand in a way others could not. Sufferers of mental illness cannot and should not compare their illness to any others. Your pain is real and is in no way less important that anyone else's.
