Aotearoa NZ histories : Adapting in our education settings - Matalena and Sione

from Tātai Aho Rau Core Education · host Tātai Aho Rau Core Education

Sione Areli, a History teacher at Christchurch Adventist School talks to Matalena Tuiloma about his childhood and fānau, his experiences as a student and how he became a teacher. He explains that growing up he saw the contradictions in the history he was hearing about from his parents and what he was being taught at school - and now as a teacher he has an opportunity to share the histories that are relevant to our shores - helping students to gain a better understanding Māori and Pacific heritage. Sione also talks about the opportunities, and challenges, that Aotearoa New Zealand Histories brings for teachers, students and communities and also ideas for teaching it.
