Job chapter 27, starting at the first verse: Moreover Job continued his discourse, and said: 'As God lives, who has taken away my justice, and the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter, as long as my breath is in me, and the breath of God in my nostrils, my lips will not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.' What happens when life falls apart? What happens when you feel like God has done you wrong? Job knew this pain all too well. Everything was going great — he had wealth, children, and respect — then suddenly disaster struck. He found himself grieving at funerals, his health failed, and he was left sitting in ashes, surrounded by so-called friends and a wife urging him to curse God and die. Yet even in his suffering, Job grasped a truth that is hard for many to accept: God is God, and He can do whatever He pleases. We may disagree, we may question, but He is still sovereign. Perhaps that's why God allowed Job to go through such trials — because even in his brokenness, Job still recognized God's authority. How do we respond when suffering comes? Do we stand firm like Job, or do we crumble? True faith is not just for the good times, but for the dark seasons too.
