Apocalypse When?

from The Pod Charles Cinecast · host The Prince Charles Cinema

This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas travel into the Heart of Darkness. Our WAR, WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?... HOLLYWOOD MOVIES arc marches on, and we march with it straight into our next era of the arc. We've said goodbye to the simpler times when war seemed black and white, good versus evil, and patriotism was something you felt like you could get behind. Now, we move into the shades of grey, with one of the most divisive wars, in what was one of the most divisive times in human history – The Vietnam War.And what better way to start the Vietnam War section of our arc, than with the granddaddy of them all... Francis Ford Coppola's APOCALYPSE NOW. Released in 1979, this psychedelic epic loosely based on Joseph Conrad's novella Heart of Darkness, starring Martin Sheen, Marlon Brando, Dennis Hopper and Robert Duvall is one of the best films of all-time; yet it is hard to imagine how it ever saw the light of day...Join us, as we travel down the winding river into Cambodia, as we get deeper and deeper into the trials and tribulations of how this troubled movie got made. We see near-death experiences, actor drama, suicide threats, lying, drugs and a little history lesson on one of the most complicated wars ever...
