Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui apologized to White House Correspondents' Dinner suspected shooter Cole Allen because he found the suspect’s jail conditions excessively harsh, unjustified, and unlike anything he had seen for January 6th defendants. Allen had been placed on suicide watch and held in a “safe cell” — a padded, constantly lit isolation room with 24‑hour lockdown, limited clothing, and no access to phone calls, books, or religious materials.
