Appeal to Anonymous Authority

In the seventieth episode we explore the Appeal to Anonymous Authority, starting out with Trump claiming 'the best analysts' predicted a stock market crash if Biden won, and that there are those who say you can test too much. We also heard about his extremely credible source for birtherism, and got a masterclass in combatting this fallacy from WH Press Secretary Jen Psaki. In Mark's British Politics Corner we look at The Sun citing unnamed 'experts' for a figure that Iain Duncan Smith then tweeted about. In the Fallacy in the Wild, we check out examples from Kill Bill Vol 2, Friends, and The Simpsons. Jim and guest host Frank go head to head in Fake News, the game in which Frank has to guess which of three Trump quotes Jim made up. Then we talk about CPAC 2021. And finally, we round up some of the other crazy Trump stories from the past week. Rather than just mindless anti-Trump rhetoric, we apply skepticism and critical thinking to our Donald Trump analysis by exploring his liberal use of logical fallacies and cognitive biases, along with a bit of humor and news about US politics. (But there is also some of that much needed anti-Trump rhetoric.)
