Apple Cup Upset Bid Under Fire | Spokane News

Washington State hits the road for a high-stakes, nationally televised Apple Cup showdown against No. 17 Washington — their first-ever season opener under the new Pac-12 deal. Coming in as massive underdogs with a 22.5-point spread, WSU’s offense is still finding its footing with inexperienced linemen and a QB under pressure from a relentless Husky front. Meanwhile, Washington returns star QB Demond Williams — who had a wild offseason exit and return — and boasts a deep, talented roster that crushed them 59-24 last year. With the Cougars aiming to snap a three-year road losing streak and the game airing live at 1 p.m. on NBC, this could be the biggest test of the young season — and maybe the most important game of the year for both programs.
