We’re all facing a tremendous amount of loss. • Health • Jobs/Income • Schooling • Connections with coworkers/friends • Physical touch • NORMAL What is your go-to emotional response when our world is in chaos? • Self-medication? • Depression? • Anger/rage? • Denial? LAMENT Biblical lament happens in the context of the relationship between humanity and God. Psalm 22 When you look at all the narratives of the Bible, what you see again and again are people who disagree with God and question him and struggle. Even the name Israel means “wrestles/struggles with God.” If you have not lamented to God about what we’re going through yet, maybe now is the time to start. And maybe we need to learn how to lament as a community as well. Biblical Lament: Brutal honesty. Unwavering Trust. Trust is not the absence of doubt. And what we see all throughout scripture. Not a God who ignores the brokenness of the world, but a God who experiences it with us. Who takes it on himself. We see a God who laments. We do not lament alone. We can trust God with our pain because we know that he is right there with us in the middle of it. In our pain - in our confusion - in our anger - we press into God. We trust in his character. And we wait for him to save.
