Matthew 4:18-22 One of the issues in human development is the question we ultimately ask ourselves, ‘What difference is my life making in this world.’ It is the question of significance and how psychologists explain the journey of the ‘mid-life’ crisis. If we live simply for ourselves and this world that is constantly changing, we may find that our lives have been built so that when the storms come, our lives are shattered. However, Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount said that if we build our lives in obedience to His word, then when those storms come, including the ‘mid-life’ crisis and the questions regarding the meaning of our personal life and its significance, we will be able to realize that we have been living with eternal values and have a life of eternal significance. Using a play on words, Jesus challenged four fishermen: Peter, Andrew, James and John, with a new purpose for living that would give them eternal significance. It is a challenge that each believer also faces. We read the account as recorded by Matthew 4:18-22.
