APRIL 8 - Messy but Worth It3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 14:3-4; Mark 8//3-Year Bible (Year 1) Devotional Book Available on Amazon//________________________________________“By the mouth of a fool comes a rod for his back, but the lips of the wise will preserve them. Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean, but abundant crops come by the strength of the ox.” — Proverbs 14:3-4“And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.’” — Mark 8:34________________________________________We all like things neat and easy—clean rooms, smooth friendships, minimal effort. But Proverbs 14:4 paints a different picture. It says that while having no oxen keeps the barn spotless, it also means no harvest. In other words, real growth often comes with a little mess. Whether it’s putting in the hard work for a school project, resolving a conflict with a friend, or stepping out in faith—growth can be uncomfortable, and sometimes even messy.Jesus understood this. In Mark 8, He called His followers to something more than a comfy life. He told them, “Take up your cross and follow me.” That’s not easy. It means making hard choices, letting go of pride, and living for something bigger than yourself. It means accepting that following Him won’t always look polished—but it will always be worth it.If your life feels messy sometimes, don’t panic. Whether you're dealing with doubts, mistakes, or learning curves, that might be where God is doing His best work in you. Don’t settle for a “clean barn” life that avoids challenges but misses purpose. Let the “oxen” in—let God do something meaningful, even if it’s a bit messy.________________________________________THINK ABOUT ITBOTTOM LINEGod often does His greatest work in the middle of life’s messes. Don’t fear discomfort—embrace the growth that comes with following Jesus wholeheartedly.________________________________________PRAYERHeavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that growth takes work and sometimes even a bit of a mess. Help me to speak with wisdom and live with purpose, even when it’s hard. Give me the courage to follow Jesus, deny myself, and choose what matters most. Teach me to value what You value and to keep going when things aren’t easy. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
