(UTC)If you speak Spanish - if you sing in Spanish - the place to be this week is here on our campus, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.This Friday, UTC hosts its first-ever Spanish song festival - “Canta: Festival de la Canción en Español” - in the University Center from 5 PM to 8 PM.Residents of Chattanooga and Hamilton County are invited to sing an original song or cover in Spanish at the family-friendly event - with a karaoke track or accompanied by one other musician.Andrea Tankersley, lead artist of the Exprésate dance project and her partner Casey Haywood, co-owner of Dance Tonight Chattanooga, will perform at Canta with the event’s theme song written by Pedro Abriles.(Dr. Brandee Strickland / UTC)After Canta, a jury will pick finalists who will perform at “Fiestaval: A Taste of Latin America” - in Miller Park on Saturday, October 5th during Hispanic Heritage Month.Dr. Brandee Strickland is a lecturer in Spanish in UTC’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures.Poster for “Canta.”(UTC)
