Archaic Podcast 402 - Zachary Lubin

Growing up in Chicago with its close proximity to Detroit, Zachary Lubin found the flourishing sounds of early house and techno on local radio stations in the late 1980s while only of grade school age and much too young to access clubs. Shortly thereafter he began DJing school parties and occasional spots on radio shows and by the mid 1990s was well immersed in the US midwest rave scene, playing both regionally and eventually abroad. His DJ style was formed from a rich musical upbringing and exposure to many different teachers and genres, and continues to be very diverse to this day- from deep vocal house to disco to electro to new wave classics to hard techno. Later he began producing and went on to release on Jeff Mills' Axis label for the 6277 project. This was followed by numerous releases on labels such as Liebe*Detail, Kimochi Sound, UntilMyHeartStops, Parity, Nighttripper, and later albums on Developer's Modularz and again on Mills' Axis imprint. He releases his own material through his label Obvio both under his own name and his more techno-oriented alias, Maximillian Nyle. Obvio was originally a reggae label created in 1982 by his father and resurrected by Zachary in 2015. His more eclectic production works strive for organic soulful elements fused with influences of melodic Detroit techno, Chicago house, and German dub techno. His techno productions are focused on the exploration of concepts and soundscapes inspired by retrofuturism, industrial technologies, art, film, architecture, and science-fiction. Some of his major influences include Ron Hardy, Theo Parrish, Jeff Mills, Louie Vega, Developer, and Oscar Mulero.
