Are smartwatches a viable alternative to smartphones?

With the many risks that smartphones pose to children, more and more parents are giving their kids ‘child-safe’ smartwatches. The smartwatches allow parents to stay in contact with their child while also delaying access to social media until a more appropriate age. Are smartwatches a viable alternative to smartphones? Is it necessary to always be in contact with your child?  Ciara O’Brien, Technology correspondent for the Irish Times, joined Sean Moncrieff on the show to discuss some of the best models on the market, and whether purchasing a smartwatch is advisable.
