Are The Phillies Contenders? (PST Show #378)

from The Philadelphia Sports Table | Philly Sports News & Views · host The Philadelphia Sports Table

The Philadelphia Phillies are slowly but surely convincing fans that they may just make the playoffs as this team has been finding ways to win ball games. But can they truly contend in the NL East based on the production of the talent thus far? This week, Alex Carr, writer and contributor at TheGoodPhight.com, joined us to discuss how this team currently looks and if Joe Girardi can get them into a good position to make a run at the NL East. But first, as of recording this show, the Flyers are still alive in the playoffs. But win or lose this series against the Islanders, what does it mean for the team and franchise to have gotten past a tough first-round opponent and continue to fight? (approx. 4:55)The Eagles Injury Curse moved its way into the Novacare Complex throughout the Birds' 2020 training camp. One of the biggest disappointments has been the temporary loss of rookie WR Jalen Reagor's. We gave our thoughts on the injury and the Eagles medical staff. (approx. 14:45)Markelle Fultz was the logical pick in 2017 for the future of the team, but that draft was the tipping point, which led us to where we're at with the Sixers today. (approx. 22:20)On the Highbrow Segment this week, we discussed how University of South Carolina women's basketball coach Dawn Staley said that she would entertain becoming the Sixers head coach if Elton Brand and the organization reached out to her. We gave our thoughts on what that dynamic would be not only for Sixers players, but for the NBA overall in terms of breaking down gender barriers. (approx. 34:45)This on the Lowbrow Segment, we're each going to give a crazy hot take this week, and discuss the viability of it, or if it's just ridiculous.. (approx. 46:10)What we're throwing down on the Table this week is an in-depth interview with Alex Carr from The Good Phight about how this Phillies season is trending, and whether they can contend in the NL East. Should the Phillies have made any other trades besides focusing solely on the bullpen? Is Alec Bohm finally the player this Phillies organization needs at third base. We then talked about the disappointment of Scott Kingery and what his future holds. Can Andrew McCutchen keep up with his current hot streak? All of this and much more this week on the Table!
