Are There Liabilities Selling 3D Print Products?
from WTFFF?! 3D Printing Podcast Volume One: 3D Print Tips | 3D Print Tools | 3D Start Point
We were just recently invited to add some of our 3D Printed designs into the Amazon 3D Printed Product Store and had to deal with this issue ourselves. Anytime you market or sell a product there is an inherent liability. In the case of 3D Printing, if you are the one printing and then selling the product, you are the manufacturer and ultimately liable. There has not been a simple and straightforward insurance protection solution for us. It seems that insurance products have not kept up with the technology changes as well. LINKS: Amazon 3D Printed Product Store Article on Liability Dangers of Amazon FBA IMPORTANT POST NOTE: As we went to explore Commercial General Liability Insurance for our own purposes, we have been faced with some surprising barriers. First no common carriers will cover 3D Printing. Second if we want to operate lean via a home office, direct importing and sending to Amazon for FBA, we will also uninsurable because we don’t have a manufacturing facility, but are technically a manufacturer. Third, because we have a blog and a podcast many insurers list us as “ineligible for coverage.” Do you have a question about 3D Printing?
