Davos 2025: The World Economic Forum’s annual meeting being held at the Promenade in Davos, Switzerland. AI is a hot topic. They say progress in artificial intelligence is advancing at a rapid pace, according to LinkedIn, AI will push 70% of job skills to change by 2030 but regulators are struggling to keep up and opting for a lighter touch – thereby leaving the risks and collateral damage of AI unchecked. The Pope warns Davos summit that AI could worsen ‘crisis of truth’ Have we opened a Pandora's box where AI is concerned while it is creating new opportunities and we are already enjoying the benefits and there is more to come, are we at the same time ignoring the ugly side of AI and hope it will all go away? In 2024, Bill Gates said his first concern is "that bad people with bad intent will use AIs for cybercrime, bioterrorism, nation-state wars." "In that case you think, okay, let's make sure the good guys have an AI that can play defence against those things, and that makes you want to move ahead and not fall behind," he said. So, engineers as creative problem solvers, we have an opportunity to innovate, provide solutions that can identify and potentially deal with the unforeseen situations that could create risk now and in the future.
