Are We Required to do This on Our Own?

from Relentless Truth with John Warren · host John Warren

Subscribe ▼ Show Notes What does it really mean to be a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ? Jesus Christ fulfilled the law. The purpose of the law is to reveal the character of God. The law is not given to us for crowd control purposes as some would suggest. The law points us to the Gospel. Legalism We should absolutely not be comfortable with legalism. Legalists are good neighbors and good for society in a sense, but they are in opposition to Jesus Christ. We look at Matthew 5 in this discussion of our self-reliance as humans. Scripture teaches us that we are saved by grace and should continue to live our lives by grace. Legalism is strictly prohibited as false virtue in the Bible. No one will be justified by the law, and no one will live by the law. It is Christ who lives in us! Christ Who Lives in Us Paul lovingly pulls apart the heresy of the legalists and refocuses the Colossians on the Gospel. He also pulls the Gnostics’ argument apart and takes on Asceticism. The centrality of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is Paul’s focus, and he overcomes false teaching by correcting this church rather directly. These lessons apply to us and inform our lives today.
