Have you ever walked into a gallery opening, heart pounding, and thought, “What am I doing here? Everyone else looks like they belong”. You're not alone. That voice in your head telling you you're not enough, it's not the truth. It's a glitch in the system. Today, Ceri explains how to reframe how you show up and who you think you are when you do. Your overachieving brain whispering, “You don't belong here”, does not make it true. It's your inner critic trying to keep you safe. But safe is not where art happens. Safe is not where connection happens. And safe is definitely not where you get to grow. So, you really do need to learn to stand up to your inner critic and reframe things, which is exactly what Ceri teaches you to do, in this episode. KEY TAKEAWAYS Before you even leave the house, do a little thought housekeeping. Remind yourself your presence is enough. You don't need to earn your place. You already have it. Put on some emotional armour. Visualise kindness. Imagine a friend or studio mate, welcoming you with warmth, delighted to see you. Walk into a room with purpose, not pressure. Ditch your performance mindset. Instead of pitching, seek out three people and make them feel seen, heard and valued. Opportunities materialise when you connect, not when you push. BEST MOMENTS “Assume generosity, that stranger you're nervous about, they're probably more worried about themselves than judging you. Most people are kinder than your inner critic.” “It's about being present, because the more curious you are, the less space there is for comparison, and the more generous you are, the more generous the room becomes. .” “"Next time that inner voice says, 'Are we there yet?' Smile, nod, tell it we're already there love - and we've only just begun.” PODCAST HOST BIO With over 30 years in the art world, Ceri has worked closely with leading artists and arts professionals, managed public and private galleries and charities, and curated more than 250 exhibitions and events.
