Good morning, everyone. Thank you for showing up to read my article or listen to my podcast. So to my podcast listeners, I just want to let you know that I have started writing for publications and some of my articles are published in publications like Coffee Times, Medium, and there is yet another digital journal. So I'm also trying to publish for other publications.
So what happened was my writings are growing pretty well and I was thinking how about helping my podcast listeners also get to feel the emotions from my writing. So I'm trying to combine these two and setting an intention. So I prepared a draft so that I can write and at the same time record. As a part of my morning ritual, while I listen to Sanskrit, mantras and devotional songs, I do the following simultaneously meditate, do yoga asanas, brain dump all my thoughts in a notebook, do an anodic activity like walking or upper body workout or code workout or ab, whatever.
As I was doing these activities, a strong desire to do a seven part series came up in my mind. I just said yes to the desire and started typing in my cell phone notepad app. First, I want to express my deepest gratitude to my audience. Now I'm mentioning audience because you would be either reading as an article or in one of my publications or you'll be listening to my episode in Nelika's Morning Visinks podcast.
That's why I'm using the word, I'm not using listener or reader, but just audience. So once again, I want to express my deepest gratitude to my audience for helping with the following achievements. It's my personal achievement. I feel great about it and I want to share my happiness with you.
The three part series of how a 10 bucks puzzle book helped enrich myself by being consciously self aware, opened up for interaction, claps and email subscribers. Thank you all so much for that. Number two, Nelika's Morning Visiting podcast crossed 2K views and also listeners from across the globe worldwide. I think it's about, right now it's about I think 15 countries I think.
As I type, my desire has crystallized to help my audience achieve their goal to keep up with their workout schedule. I have no idea of the content for the seven day series, but the desire for seven day series and the desire that I should keep it in, I should keep the topic as workout schedule is very intense. However, today I want to accomplish these things. Number one, write and submit my writing to the publications.
Number two, record my podcast episode. Number three, be done with these two things within our world. If I don't set a time, then the entire activity will just spread into the time. So that's why I set my own self-imposed goal, but I don't like to be hard on myself.
I've given a pretty generous time of one hour. As I said about clear intentions, the following question came up, which served as the content for today's writing and recording. What's the question? What did I learn about myself in the process of writing for publications or recording an episode, podcast episode?
This is the answer that I came up with for the question that I raised for myself. I need to set an intention. If I'm hard on myself, it does not work. My intrinsic motivation needs to be stronger than extrinsic motivation.
I won't say that you should never have extrinsic motivation, but my intrinsic motivation needs to be stronger than the extrinsic motivation. And researchers proved that in whatever domain you're setting intention to do something, if your intrinsic motivation is higher then you will accomplish the task easily effortlessly. So as I learned from self-determination theory, this is a course offered by Coursera.org. I will put the link also and I'm doing that course.
I'm almost completing that course. So as I learned from that course, so what does intrinsic motivation mean actually? So I should have the autonomy, I should feel competent to do something and there should be a relatability. Now, I should have autonomy to decide on the topic that I'm passionate about and I feel connected to that topic.
Number two, I should feel competent and I should be competent to write about the topic. Maybe research from somewhere, use my own experiences, share my own experiences, suggestions, all that. And I should be able to help my audience relate to the topic that I'm writing about or speaking about so that me and my audience get value. What do I mean by extrinsic motivation?
I do the task because I get compensated by an external source. Maybe somebody else said, hey, do it, just do it or something like that. I'm not saying it's a bad motivation but this is just an example of external motivation and I'm gonna explain how it works for me. So I do the task because I get compensated by an external source through money or appreciation for writing or recording a podcast episode.
To give you an example, some of the publications organize competition, writers, competition, writers challenge. They say if you win, you get 150 bucks or whatever it is or they will put you to a bigger platform and things like that. But you know what, personally, I'm talking about me, personally, these competitions and challenges don't motivate me at all. I do not know, that's my personality, I guess.
So they don't motivate me as of this writing. I do not know as I evolve, it might change, it might change. But as of this writing, that doesn't motivate me. Also, I don't have any innate or competitive desire that my podcast should be highest ranking or have so many subscribers.
I do not have the innate desire. However, I do look at the statistics and I get excited, oh my God, today there are 24 people who listened. I do see the statistics. I love it.
It acts as, I think, small nudge for me to move on with my intrinsic motivation. Well, here is my intention for part two of the series. I wanna share my experience of how I was motivated to start working out. I was not working out for, you know, I was not working out for quite a long period of my adult life, but what motivated me?
And that's the intention I'm setting. And the one of the reasons for setting the intention is it actually helps you crystallize. Crystal is what you want to say, what you want to write. So that's why today, I'm setting the intention for the part two.
Thank you so much for being a patient reader, for being an ardent listener, and you have a fantastic day. Bye.
