Are you more Positive or more Negative?

from Never Perfect · host Dr. Beth

In this short episode, Beth talks about the importance of not being overly positive (which is sometimes referred to as toxic positivity) or overly negative (like “Debbie Downer”). Toxic positivity can be defined as the belief that people should put a positive spin on all experiences. She advises many of her clients to recognize (and journal about!) what is hard and stressful in their lives while also remembering to acknowledge what is going well and they are thankful for. It’s not healthy to be all or nothing, but have a balanced view of life, and be real, honest and vulnerable with others. It’s neither healthy to gloss over painful emotions or to only focus on the hard stuff. Life is a mix of both, so find a balance!
