Riding On The Urge' featuring folks who have chosen to follow their hearts, dreams and passions. They did not and do not listen to the nay-sayers or to the 'it can't be done-ners' but step out on Faith and Intention, not allowing fears to derail them. Today's spotlight is on the fabulous Sayydah Garrett, Co-Founder and President of the non-profit Pastoralist Child Foundation. She is also an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher for adults and teaches French as well. I am so excited to introduce my long time friend to you, she is a dynamo with a deep well of Wisdom and Insight. She' razor-whip sharp and funny as all get out. And her journey is quite inspiring, you must hear the amazing way she and her co-founder Samuel Leadismo came together and created Pastoralist Child Foundation!! It's WILD! There are laughs throughout that we share due to our long history of sisters in friendship, I crack up when she says her dad's name...both our fathers were born not only in the same year but in the same month AND have the same last names!! Sayydah is convinced we are related and I don't doubt it! When you hear her journey to date, it's no wonder to learn of the amazing work she is doing. The mission of Pastoralist Child Foundation is to eradicate the harmful practice of female genital mutilation (FGM or female circumcision) and early marriages of young girls to older men in the pastoralist Maasai communities of Kenya, Africa. The children in Maasai communities want to get an education and achieve their dreams - like children everywhere else. Our work starts in Samburu and Maasai Mara and will spread to all pastoralist communities.
