Are You Resisting God's Plan? | Hindering God's Plan | Acts 11:1-18 | w/ Pastor Joshua Sanders

How many of you have ever tried to get something done around the house, but couldn’t because of all the stuff in the way? Maybe it’s cleaning out the garage, but you keep tripping over tools. Maybe it’s trying to vacuum the living room, but the floor’s covered with laundry. Or maybe you’re trying to cook dinner, but the kitchen counters are piled high with clutter, making it impossible to find space to chop up your vegetables. These hindrances are a lot like what we see in Acts 11. For three weeks, we were in Chapter 10. In Chapter 10, we saw a monumental moment in the early church—God broke down the walls of prejudice to bring the Gospel to the Gentiles. Now, as we move into Chapter 11, the excitement of what God was doing among the Gentiles met some resistance from the Jewish believers. In this sermon we dive into verse 1 through 18. In these verses, word had spread that Peter had gone into the house of a Gentile, and not everyone was on board with this. Some were questioning what Peter had done, creating obstacles to what God was clearly at work doing. Now, just as God had a plan in Chapter 10, He’s continuing that plan in Chapter 11, and it was crucial that believers got on board with the Spirit’s leading, rather than standing in the way. In this passage God had a clear plan (which we saw unfold in chapter 10), and His Spirit was moving, but some believers were being a hindrance. They were hindering what God wanted to do, just like all the stuff that gets in our way of accomplishing tasks! And here’s what we will learn: When God is at work as we GET AFTER IT for the expanding of the Kingdom of God, it’s our job to get out of the way and let Him do what He wants to do!
