ARFID, Eating Grief, & Neurodiversity With Lauren Sharifi, RD, @arfid.dietitian

from Dr. Marianne-Land: An Eating Disorder Recovery Podcast · host mariannemillerphd

Lauren Sharifi, RD, and I explore ARFID (avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder) and its challenges. We talk about the grief that happens when kids, adults, and even entire families realize that selective eating is a challenging part of their lives that isn't something that can be "fixed" and it's instead something that people learn to manage. We highlight how neurodivergent folks are often more susceptible to having ARFID when compared to neurotypical individuals.  ABOUT LAUREN SHARIFI, RD   Lauren Sharifi is a registered dietitian nutritionist based in Massachusetts. Lauren owns her own virtual private practice where she specializes in ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder). Lauren works with 1-1 with parents, teens and adults and runs a community support group for adults with ARFID as well as caregivers of those with ARFID Lauren takes a neurodivergent affirming, trauma informed and responsive feeding approach to make eating and nourishment more accessible for individuals with ARFID and ARFID-like traits.   Here's what Lauren has to say about how she became an eating disorder dietitian: "Previous to specializing in ARFID, I worked with those with disordered eating, eating disorders as well as family nutrition. Through this process, I started getting more and more clients with ARFID and really enjoyed working with them. At the same time, I struggled to find any resources out there for providers or clients. I wanted to change that! About 2.5 years ago, I began my own private practice that soly focuses on supporting ARFID clients and filling the much needed gap for neurodivergent-affirming ARFID care and resources."   She lives and practices in Massachusetts, in the United States. She is able to work virtually with people in many states across the USA.   Contact Lauren via Instagram @arfid.dietitian Check out her website https://laurensharifi.com/ Email Lauren at [email protected]   INTERESTED IN HANGING OUT MORE IN DR.
