Scripture reveals that “arise” is not emotional encouragement but covenantal restoration. God calls His people to stand because His glory has already risen upon them. Light does not come because we rise; we rise because light has come.In Isaiah 60, God speaks to Zion after devastation, exile, and loss. Jerusalem had been brought low, surrounded by darkness, stripped of strength and visibility. Yet God announces restoration grounded not in human effort but in His revealed glory. The command to arise is a repositioning into what God has already established. “Your light has come” is declared before movement or visibility, and standing is the response to revealed reality.This light flows from YHWH Himself, Jehovah El Roi, the God who sees. His glory is not hidden or obstructed; His brilliance pierces darkness, generations, and time. As Jeremiah declares, God knew us before we were formed, because He already sees by His eternal light. In Christ, this seeing becomes illumination. Christ does not merely give light; He is the Light.Under the New Covenant, the sun and moon no longer define illumination. The Lord is our everlasting Light, Christ, the glory that rises upon us, the lamp that never dims. As echoed in Ephesians, to arise is to awaken from darkness and stand in the light Christ gives.
