From Kansas Jayhawks basketball, this is your February 28th update. Number 2. Arizona crushed Kansas 84-61 in Tucson. Darren Peterson poured in 24 points for the Jayhawks to lead all scorers.
Melvin Council Jr. and Trey White added 13 each, but the rest of the team combined for just 4 made shots out of 24 attempts. Arizona's 5 starters all hit double figures. Guard Bradenburys posted a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Center Motiajus-Krivas added 13 points and 10 boards. The Wildcats controlled the paint and built big leads with scoring runs. Kansas struggled early, giving up 19 straight points to fall behind big. They clawed back to within 2 late in the first half, but then allowed another 16 in a row.
Coach Bill self-burned timeouts quickly as mismatches hurt the Jayhawks. The Wildcats owned the glass with 48 rebounds to Kansas' 26th. They also got to the line 34 times, making most in the second half compared to Kansas' 11 attempts. Shooting woes and turnovers sealed the blowout for KU.
Kansas falls to 21-8 overall, 11-5 in Big 12 play. They're out of the regular season title hunt but need a top 4C for a tournament. Double-bye. The Jayhawks stay in Arizona to face Arizona State Tuesday night at 8 central.
