Nascido em Coimbra em 1959, formado em Engenharia Florestal na Universidade de Trás-os-Montes, Armando Carvalho é, porventura, um dos especialistas mais conceituados e um dos mais profundos conhecedores do mundo rural e dos problemas e potencialidades do interior. Com um percurso profissional multifacetado, com passagem pelo mundo associativo (foi vice-presidente da Quercus nos anos 90) e mesmo na assessoria em gabinetes ministeriais, tem sido sobretudo no terreno que se tem valorizado (e tem dado valor), com as suas passagens por diversos cargos técnicos e de chefia em organismos públicos do sector do Ambiente, Florestas, Conservação da Natureza e Turismo. Nos últimos anos tem-se também empenhado na divulgação dos valores patrimoniais, dirigindo a elaboração de diversos guias, elaborados pela editora Foge Comigo. Nesta entrevista – ou, melhor dizendo, conversa de amigos de longa data –, com Pedro Almeida Vieira, Armando Carvalho fala sobretudo dos problemas da floresta e dos incêndios florestais, e também da sua experiência numa paciente 'luta' para inverter o minifúndio e valorizar a floresta e as comunidades rurais.
