ARN Live Show - April 14, 2009
from Annenberg Radio News · host Brooke-Sidney Gavins
The Los Angeles Unified School District managed to save 1,900 elementary teachers from layoffs. Superintendent Ramone C. Cortinez says a combination of state and federal stimulus funds were used to essentially buy back teachers that had already received layoff notices. Thousands of other teachers and district employees are still at risk. And after the suicide of an inmate at the Men’s Central Jail, the ACLU says more needs to be done to help inmates with mental health problems. And the economic recession has caused the biggest slump in on-location filming in L.A. in 16 years. Producer: Timothy Beck Werth, Host: Brooke-Sidney Gavins, Live Guest: Ned Dannenberg (ATVN). Featuring instrumental tracks from music by Panda Bear, Animal Collective, Ne-Yo, and Ryan Amen.
