Congresswoman Diane Watson (D-Ca) announced her retirement today. Seventy-six year-old Watson has held the 33rd district seat since 2001 and many in the community say she broke barriers as an elected official. In the newscast, we share Watson’s words on why she’s retiring now. We also speak to community activists that share reflection on Watson’s career. Our host, Heather Hope, speaks to a political science professor about the possibility of the district going Republican. We also cover the budget crisis hitting L.A.. Our reporters go to city hall, and a mayor’s forum to find out more on the proposed layoffs that will affect thousands of city employees. Hear the protests against the state healthcare cuts staged by Planned Parenthood. And for good news, a wellness center opened up in South L.A. to provide health services to students. Producer: Jessica Flores, Host: Heather Hope, Live Guests: Chris Foy, Kate Cagle (ATVN). Featuring instrumental tracks from music by Green Day, Linkin Park, LMFAO, Drake, and Ryan Amen.
